Marbles Aliveri
Aliveri marble is a calcareous marble of magenta gray to blue and shades of gray darker and lighter that create interesting color schemes.
Shades of gray vary, depending on the origin of the material. Also vary, the color patterns of the material, which may have a regular arrangement, such as parallel grooves, or are irregular. In the material there may also be light to almost white veins of recrystallized calcite with thickness up to several centimeters, as well as lenses of the same color or dark veins.
Gray Aliveri marble, which was first mined by a quarry near Aliveri in central Evia, began to be used in the building industry since the 1960. Since then, many marble quarries have been operating both in the Aliveri area and southern to the Wider area of the Dystos, which were distributed in marble zones interposed marbles shales.
In 2011 the Aliveri marble was mined by only two quarries, the annual production of which is in the order of 5,000 cubic meters. A large proportion of output is exported to different countries, both in the form of volumes, and semi-finished and finished products.
