Marble Skiros
This particular marble originates from the homonymous island. It is a conglomerate marble homogeneous, compact with saccharide tissue and good hardness.
It dominates the white background, crossed by colorful veins. The CaCO3 content reaches up to 98%, while another 1% silicon, minimal trivalent iron and trace amounts of manganese are present, with the effect of diluting H on the powder from this marble, precipitates precipitate, while the pink color of the solution remains unchanged. .
The color of the veins is due to the hematite content but also to the magnetite fragments, which give the material a metallic look similar to that shown by the veins of Ceravezza marble conglomerates of Carrara and Versilia. This marble is suitable for interior use and for the construction of columns and arches, which can be placed on exterior, not exposed to atmospheric agents, parts of structures.
The shades of this marble are particularly intense due to the hematite content, red manganese, and manganese silicate compounds, due to the violet shades of marble. The yellow color of the veins is due to the content of Limonitis.
The quality of this marble, which was mined around for 2,000 years, is considered to be excellent. This material is also recommended for outdoor uses because the colors remain unchanged by the influence of atmospheric agents.
